11th Annual UC San Diego Essentials & Advances in Apheresis Therapies

AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ (18.00 hours), ABIM MOC Part 2 (18.00 hours), ABS CC (18.00 hours), Non-Physician Attendance (18.00 hours)

This 2½-day multidisciplinary program will be held at the Kona Kai Resort in San Diego, California. It is designed to appeal to first time attendees and to returning participants. Expert reviews of the essentials will be augmented with selected new topics and discussions of advances and innovations.

• Nationally and internationally recognized leaders will present didactic sessions and conduct interactive discussions.
• Fundamentals will include in-depth reviews of basic principles, procedures, prescribing, clinical management and care of special populations.
• Updates on selected disease indications will be supplemented by case studies and new clinical science.
• Symposia will review plasma exchange, cell apheresis modalities, technology innovations, and program management.
• The popular sessions on Frontiers in Apheresis Science and Expertise in Apheresis Practice will continue with updated topics.
• Participants will be offered small group sessions led by experienced practitioners demonstrating various techniques and machines used in therapeutic apheresis.
• Conference attendees will have the opportunity to submit challenging cases for discussion during an expert panel session.

1. Review current clinical indications for therapeutic plasmapheresis, photopheresis and other cytapheresis procedures, per ASFA guidelines
2. Discuss options for vascular access, anticoagulation, and prescription for the various apheresis techniques, and be able to evaluate and treat their associated complications
3. Recognize and describe important pharmacologic issues that arise with apheresis procedures, including timing of administration, drug removal, as well as impact on anticoagulation
4. Identify apheresis techniques in specialized populations such as pediatrics, LDL-apheresis, and Immune Effector Cell therapies (IEC, which includes CAR-T cells, etc.).
5. Discuss apheresis program management issues
6. Recognize recent developments in clinical trials and new applications of apheresis therapies

Cancellation Policy: The full course tuition is refundable, less $50 if your cancellation is received in writing, on or before February 16, 2024. No refunds will be allowed after this date. In the unlikely event that the course is canceled, UC San Diego is responsible only for a full refund of the registration fee.

The 2024 Apheresis Conference syllabus will be available electronically. The full course syllabus as well as any missing presentations will be available for download on the conference website approximately (1) one week after the conference. UC San Diego Continuing Medical Education (CME) is committed to creating a healthy and sustainable environment. 

AAPA: AAPA accepts certificates of participation for educational activities certified for AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™ from organizations accredited by ACCME or a recognized state medical society. Physician assistants may receive a maximum of 18.00 hours of Category 1 credit for completing this program.

Nurses: For the purpose of recertification, the American Nurses Credentialing Center accepts AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ issued by organizations accredited by the ACCME. For the purpose of relicensure, the California Board of Registered Nursing accepts AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ (report up to 18.00 hours of credit and list "CME Category 1" as the provider number).

Pharmacists: The California Board of Pharmacy accepts as continuing education for pharmacists coursework which meets the standard of relevance to pharmacy practice and is accepted as continuing education by the Medical Board of California.

Psychologists: The California Board of Psychology recognizes and accepts AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)™ for license renewal. Psychologists outside of California should check with their state and local boards to ensure that ACCME accredited activities are acceptable for renewal.

A limited block of rooms has been reserved at the special discount rate of $219. Once the room block has been filled, discounted group rates may not be available. We encourage you to make your reservation early. The hotel is currently full on February 21st, but there is availability February 22-24th.
