Hugh Greenway's 41st Annual Superficial Anatomy & Cutaneous Surgery program is designed to provide the basic information and principles of superficial head and neck anatomy and surgery for those interested in dermatologic surgery.

This cutting-edge program is designed to provide the basic principles of superficial head & neck anatomy and surgery for those interested in dermatological surgery. Each participant will utilize fresh cadaver material for superficial head & neck dissection. Lectures will be used for initial instruction and will be followed by ample time in the laboratory.

In addition, the course will focus on local skin flaps and grafts as they pertain to the cutaneous surgeon. Small group workshops will give participants an opportunity to problem solve with the outstanding faculty we have assembled.

Scripps is a multi-specialty clinic dedicated to the pursuit of excellence in healthcare, biomedical research, and education. It is part of the oldest private research institution in the United States, the largest in the nation, and is known especially for its blend of first-rate science and innovative medical care. Scripps is one of the operating units of Scripps Health.

1. Identify the principles of superficial head and neck anatomy
2. Review the principles of reconstruction of surgical defects including local flap reconstruction
3. Review subsets of material basic to dermatologic surgery
4. Discuss full thickness and split thickness skin grafts
5. Illustrate the anatomic principles and reconstruction of specific body units (i.e. ear, nose, foot, hand, etc.)
6. Examine indications and treatment of photo damaged skin, including topical and destructive therapies including lasers

Cancellation Policy: The full course tuition is refundable, less $300 if your cancellation is received in writing, on or before July 15, 2024. On or after July 16, 2024, the tuition is refundable less a $500 cancellation fee. No refunds will be allowed after August 1, 2024. 

In the unlikely event that the course is canceled, UC San Diego and Scripps are responsible only for a full refund of the registration fee and not for transportation, hotel accommodations or any miscellaneous expenses.

 

What should I bring for the anatomy labs?

• We recommend that you wear surgical scrubs
• Scalpel handle
• Forceps
• Scissors (tissue and suture)
• Needle holder
• Magnification loops (optional)
• Any other items you feel you may need

UC San Diego CPD will supply gloves, suture, blades, protective goggles, aprons and masks.
There will also be a vendor that will be selling surgical tools.

 Lab Etiquette

• Closed toe shoes must be worn in the labs at ALL times.
• Do not remove ID tags from specimens.
• Refrain from taking pictures of any kind.

 

AAPA: AAPA accepts certificates of participation for educational activities certified for AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™ from organizations accredited by ACCME or a recognized state medical society. Physician assistants may receive a maximum of 36.75 hours of Category 1 credit for completing this program.

Nurses: For the purpose of recertification, the American Nurses Credentialing Center accepts AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ issued by organizations accredited by the ACCME. For the purpose of relicensure, the California Board of Registered Nursing accepts AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ (report up to 36.75 hours of credit and list "CME Category 1" as the provider number).

Pharmacists: The California Board of Pharmacy accepts as continuing education for pharmacists coursework which meets the standard of relevance to pharmacy practice and is accepted as continuing education by the Medical Board of California.

American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM): Successful completion of this CME activity, which includes participation in the evaluation component, enables the participant to earn up to 36.75 MOC points in the American Board of Internal Medicine’s (ABIM) Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program. It is the CME activity provider’s responsibility to submit participant completion information to ACCME for the purpose of granting ABIM MOC credit

American Board of Surgery (ABS): Successful completion of this CME activity, which includes participation in the evaluation component, enables the learner to earn credit toward the CME requirement of the American Board of Surgery’s Continuous Certification program. It is the CME activity provider's responsibility to submit learner completion information to ACCME for the purpose of granting ABS credit.

American Board of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery (ABOHNS): Successful completion of this CME activity, which includes participation in the evaluation component, enables the participant to earn their required annual part II self-assessment credit in the American Board of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery’s Continuing Certification program (formerly known as MOC). It is the CME activity provider's responsibility to submit participant completion information to ACCME for the purpose of recognizing participation.
