Online registration is closed to prep for the meeting. Walk-in registrations are welcome!

The inaugural San Diego Obesity Medicine Summit is an in-person meeting scheduled for March 15, 2025, on the University of California San Diego Medical Campus at the T. Denny Sanford Medical Education and Telemedicine Center in La Jolla, CA. Until recently, obesity was considered a stubborn disease of willpower but associated with a myriad of life-threatening complications. Over the last few years it has become well known that hormonal changes make clinically significant weight loss and its maintenance extremely difficult. New highly effective anti-obesity medications targeting these pathologic hormone changes are now available, transforming obesity into a treatable disease. The benefits of addressing obesity affects all medical specialties and healthcare professionals. Hear from top obesity medicine experts, key opinion leaders, and authors of landmark articles in the field on how to incorporate effective obesity treatment in your busy practice. We aim to provide attendees with the tools necessary to improve the health of their patients and enhance their quality of life. This conference is organized by the San Diego Obesity Medicine Society.

Expert Round Table Discussion – Challenging Cases in the Treatment of Obesity

Gain practical insights on common issues encountered treating patients with obesity. Real world clinical dilemmas and strategies for their management will be discussed including complex cases in pharmacotherapy such as  weight plateaus, "non-responders", and patients on weight promoting medications. Participants may bring brief challenging patient cases for discussion amongst our expert panel as well as the audience.

Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, learners should be able to:

  1. Apply strategies to help patients manage obesity as well as obesity comorbid diseases, enhance their overall health, and reduce the risk of adverse effects
  2. Explain the uses, benefits, and potential risks of anti-obesity medications to patients, supporting informed decision-making.
  3. Discuss the risks and benefits of bariatric procedures with patients and develop plans for their long-term management after surgery.
  4. Explain the impact of novel anti-obesity therapies on reducing morbidity and mortality, highlighting their clinical benefits and long-term outcomes.
