Overview

This educational activity aims to discuss recent clinical advances in breast oncology that have emerged from presentations at recent international meetings including ASCO, ESMO and SABCS. The activity format allows for interaction between UC San Diego faculty and meeting attendees with the aim of implementing new standards of patient care and advancing clinical practice. Participants will gain up-to-date, practical information with immediate clinical application.

Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, learners should be able to:

  1. Evaluate contemporary evidence and apply multidisciplinary decision making for HR+/HER2-, HER2+, and triple-negative breast cancer across early and metastatic stages.
  2. Incorporate prognostic and predictive biomarkers into personalized treatment planning and understand their role in guiding therapy selection for various breast cancer subtypes.
  3. Integrate systemic therapy advances – including oral SERDs, antibody-drug conjugates, and other emerging therapies – into treatment sequencing and patient selection across breast cancer subtypes.
  4. Recognize, monitor, and co-manage clinically significant toxicities of modern breast cancer therapies, including dermatologic, endocrine, and ocular adverse effects, while minimizing unnecessary treatment interruptions.
  5. Apply evidence-based strategies to counsel patients on surveillance anxiety, menopausal symptoms, sexual health, and the risks and limitations of estrogen-containing therapies following breast cancer treatment.
