Overview

The course developers designed this training based on their decades-long real-world experience leading enrollment management processes in U.S. medical schools including California. They developed this course for colleagues who are invested in the future of the physician workforce. The principal developer, Dr. Nakae, is a leading voice in medical education research and practice with extensive publication in rigorous, peer-reviewed outlets such as Academic Medicine.

Learners will assess the role of medical school enrollment management practices in relationship to their school’s mission and California’s persistent physician workforce needs. Those who complete the modules will gain access to usable tools and resources that support their school’s local mission-alignment, broader state physician workforce needs, and operational efficiency challenges in their annual MD or DO admissions cycle. Importantly, learners will address ways to expand the talent pool in medicine.

  2. Demonstrate awareness of mission-anchored approaches to enrollment management.
  3. Describe how medical school admissions policies and practices result in competition that detracts from CA physician workforce needs.
  4. Apply key concepts around enrollment management to real-life CA medical school admissions scenarios.
  5. State why MD/DO enrollment management processes impact state-wide (CA) physician workforce needs.
  6. Identify at least two actionable next steps to improve admissions committee processes in alignment with institutional mission and CA physician workforce needs.
