Course Description: This course provides expert faculty lectures on basic and advanced techniques of peripheral nerve blocks and management of acute pain with emphasis in small group hands-on ultrasound workshops.

Target Audience: This course is designed for anesthesia providers (physicians only) of all skill levels. Our expert faculty can help you enhance your knowledge, improve basic ultrasound technique or fine tune advanced skills. Advanced Ultrasound Workshop: Recommended for those that have mastered basic skills and are looking to improve advanced technique. Our faculty will guide you through real time ultrasound guided blocks performed on cadavers.

Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, learners should be able to:

  1. Discuss sonoanatomy of commonly performed nerve blocks and vascular procedures.
  2. Describe the principles of ultrasonography physics and the ergonomic setup of the equipment for optimal efficiency.
  3. Discuss differentiating arteries, veins, nerves, tendons and muscles.
  4. Utilize expertise to enhance needle visibility in phantom blocks.
  5. Assess various benefits of using real time, ultrasound guidance for regional anesthesia administration and vascular access.
  6. Perform blocks in cadavers using real time sonography under 1:1 faculty assistance.
